Our Virginia Trip

This past Thursday, we woke up bright and early (at 3:30 AM to be exact) and headed to the airport for our trip to Virginia.  There were a lot of firsts that happened on this trip...our first time in Virginia, Kathryn's first airplane ride, and Kathryn's first wedding.  Despite the fact it was over 100 degrees each day we were there, we had an absolute blast.

Since we were up so early Thursday morning, we didn't make Kathryn change into clothes until our first flight.  We were hoping she would go back to sleep on the drive to Nashville, but she was definitely too excited for that.  Kathryn did a great job on the flight.  She acted like a pro the entire time.  You would have thought she was a frequent flyer.

Landing in Norfolk, Virginia
Once in Norfolk, we got our rental car and headed to Yorktown.  We stopped to eat lunch at Plaza Aztec.  It was a delicious Mexican restaurant.  The guacamole they prepared table side was so good!  Then we spent some time hanging out with the groom Mike Lewellen at his home.  Next we checked in at our hotel, and then went to dinner at Joe and Mimma's with the bridal party and family.  This was an Italian affair and the food was great.  It was fun hanging out with everyone and meeting new folks.  Kathryn especially enjoyed playing with Brice (the bride and groom's son).

Friday, Kathryn and I headed to Water Country USA in Williamsburg.  This water park was unbelievable.  There were 3 areas that were kid friendly, and Kathryn had an absolute blast.
She loved the slides the best!
Enjoying a snack
Without a doubt, the slides were a big hit for her
Our drive on the way back to Yorktown...we were water front the entire time...so pretty!
Kathryn missed the pretty scenery on the ride back...she was exhausted after a day at the water park
Friday evening was the rehearsal and dinner.  Kathryn and I didn't stay out late.  We were pretty worn out from a full day at Water Country USA.
Walking to the Rehearsal Dinner...everything is Yorktown is within walking distance...I loved that!

Saturday was the big wedding day.  First thing that morning, I headed to the Farmer's Market solo.  I grabbed some baked goodies for breakfast as well as a couple of jarred goodies to bring home (salsa and mango preserves).  Then, Kathryn and I decided headed to lunch at Carrot Tree.  The food was delicious and the environment was full of history.  After lunch, we caught a trolley ride to see more of Yorktown.  We ended up stopping at Ben & Jerry's before going back to the hotel the get ready for the wedding.

The best carrot cake!

Relaxing on the trolley...it was really nice being in the AC
Ben & Jerry's...and, all the buildings where this cute...Yorktown is beautiful!
Mouthful of ice cream
After our ice cream stop, we went back to the room to get ready for the night.  Lew and Dawn had a beautiful (and slightly hot...again, temps over 100) wedding.
Daddy was a handsome groomsman!
At the reception...tired and hot
Mommy and Daddy
Pretty centerpieces
Kathryn would not take a pic with the three of us, but she did take one pic with me...I look exhausted (and that's exactly how I felt), but it's a cute pic of Kathryn
The reception was so hot, we walked across the street to Ben & Jerry's to get some ice cream and cool off.  Yes, this was our second time there in one day, and the people there recognized us and called us out on it!
Kathryn and I did not stay at the reception for long.  It was just so hot, and we were beyond tired.  Plus, we had to get up early (4:30 AM) Sunday morning to head back to Tennessee.  Kathryn did pretty well flying back on Sunday.  She was a little fussy, but I think more than anything, she was plain ole worn out.
Our first flight heading home...again, this was taken while we were landing
Ipad Fun
Gotta love the accessories...sunglasses, bracelets...she is my fashionista!
Our final descend in Nashville
We had a wonderful weekend!  Kathryn and I got to spend lots of time together, and we just had lots of fun.  We were all glad to be home Sunday.  Team Luther was all in bed and asleep by 7:30 PM.  Our first trip to Virginia was a success!
