Kathryn: Zithromax Allegry: For Documentation Purposes

Kathryn had been under the weather for over a week...while at SGI, she tested positive for strep...the first time since having her tonsils removed about 4 years ago.  She took amoxicillin for a week and still was not better.  I took her to her doc Monday morning, and she was diagnosed with pneumonia...UGH!!!!!  Pneumonia in June????  None the less, I gave her the prescribed Zithromax, and about 3 hours later, she broke out into a few whelps.  By Tuesday morning, she was covered in whelps...huge, itchy, scary looking whelps.  I took her back to the doc.  We were there for over 2 hours and saw 5 doctors.  It was decided to obviously stop the Zithromax (which I had only given her the one dose), and to treat the whelps with a liquid steroid.  By Thursday, the whelps were looking better and we switched her to another antibiotic which seems to agree with her.  By Sunday (just in time to leave for church camp), she was feeling so much better...still coughing, but overall felt and looked well.  In a couple of months, I will take her for allergy testing to determine if she is truly allergic to the Zithromax.  But for now, it is a documented allergy.
