Well, we finally caved in...Kathryn has been asking for MONTHS (really over a year) for a dog. Since Bailey passed, she has wanted another dog. And, selfishly, I couldn't bear the thought of having another fur baby because I still miss Bailey so much everyday. And, part of me too feels like it has been a relief not having a dog and all the responsibility that a dog brings. I decided that I couldn't be selfish, and I couldn't let the kids grow up without a dog. We are at a point, that by getting a dog now, they will have the dog until they go to college (most likely).
Last week, Kyle and I majorly discussed all the aspects. We researched breeds. And, ironically enough, a breed we were heavily considering was available locally. A local vet had bred his Labradoodle and Lab. They had a litter of pups ready to go home this past weekend. I went out last Wednesday to check out the available puppies. As soon as I saw Winston, I knew he was the one. I immediately felt connected with him. He was the 2nd largest in his litter, and he was the fuzziest. The breeder said he was also the laziest...another plus in my book!
So, that brought us to here...Saturday morning while the kids were with Kyle, I picked up Winston and brought him home. When the kids arrived, they got to open an early birthday gift. Winston was in the box when they opened it. I think they were quite shocked. After a few minutes of petting him and loving on him they asked if they could keep him. I think they thought it was just too good to be true.
I love that we were able to totally surprise them. And, I love how much they already love Winston. He is the perfect dog for our family, and we are all in love with him already!
