I was summoned for Jury Duty (Federal court in Nashville) for the month of September. I was so excited to fulfill my civic duty. Each Monday during the month of September, I had to call for reporting instructions. It was the last Monday of September when I received instructions to report. I was super excited! Once checked in at the courthouse, we went to the courtroom for selection. Out of 25 people, I was one of eight selected to serve on a jury for a civil case. This particular case was three sisters versus the Rutherford County Board of Education. As a teacher, this was of high interest to me! I don't want to get into the case too much, but I found the entire process of court very interesting. I truly enjoyed all aspects of serving on a jury. At the end of the case, we ruled in favor of the school board based on the law given to us. Some take aways...
1. The judge in our court was awesome...she ruled the roost
2. Before court each morning, I ran in downtown Nashville, and I loved it! I enjoyed clearing my mind and getting in a good sweat before having to sit down all day in court
3. I met some great people (other jurors) during this process
4. I could totally be a full time juror...I loved it that much
5. I was the foreman for our group
6. The judge and bailiffs said we were one of the best group of jurors they ever had
7. YMCA Downtown Nashville...BEST Y EVER! One morning it was raining so I got a free Y pass, and I was beyond impressed with the facility
8. After going through this, I totally believe in our court system and jury system
9. I hope I am called again for jury duty!!!
